and Glasgow and bring it to the power stations by rail. Then coal from
Stobbswood open cast mine in Northumberland was brought to Battleship Wharf
by lorry and loaded onto trains. The chutes shown were the last to be used
to load coal directly into the holds of ships. Since 2021 coal
is no longer loaded at the port.
