The North Pier at low tide | ||
Tynemouth pier was started in 1854 and finished in 1895. Three years later it was demolished in a storm and rebuilt by 1909. At very low tides the old curved foundations can be seen outside the straight new pier. |
On the other side of the North pier are the remains of a landing stage which was used to load passengers on ferries which ran to Newcastle. It is somewhat surprising that the timbers have lasted so well. |
