CHIRTON DENE North Shields

The second valley, divides the new housing developments above Royal Quays Marina.

This was once the centre of a large timber yard for the importation of 'pit props' from Scandinavia. (Pit props were wooden supports for the underground 'roof' in a coal-mine.)

It starts with a stream .....

... which runs into the lake - with a representation of the coal staithes which loaded coal into the ships

.... then the Cascade finally runs to the river.
