Founded as the "Tyne Pontoons & Drydock Company", Wallsend Dry Docks became part of Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson - later just Swan Hunter.
By 1993 they were 'A & P Appledore Shipbuilding' then finally 'A & P Tyne'. No. 4 dock was reopened for the construction of sections for the Second Tyne Tunnel.
In 2009 the disused yards between Howdon and Walker were purchased by Shepherd Offshore with the intention of constructing wind turbines under the name of Shepherd Energy Park.
