In 1983 the former car ferry Caledonian Princess was berthed under the
Tyne bridge as
Tuxedo Princess a
floating nightclub.
On 28th July 2008, towed by the tug Pantodynamos, she left the river in thick
fog bound for Greece, where she was to be restored as a nightclub. By August
2009 no work had taken place and she was scrapped. The sister ship Tuxedo Royale
replaced her at Newcastle for a time, before moving to Middleborough for
restoration, but was damaged beyond repair by a fire. She was scrapped in
2018.
