Local Knott's Flats Home

The Sir James Knott Memorial Flats on Tynemouth Road, overlooking the mouth of the Tyne, were opened in 1939. The flats were built with the threat of war in mind, constructed with fire-resistant materials and with large cellars for use as air-raid shelters. See more. Local rumours suggest that they were never bombed because Hitler intended them as his headquarters in the North-East.
