The lifeboat
The inventor of the first unsinkable lifeboat has long been a sore point between those who credit William Wouldhave of North Shields, Henry Greathead of Gateshead or Lionel Lukin of Essex. Whichever it was, the boat seen here was used from South Shields beach to rescue sailors from shipwrecks.
